New 3 storey 24 classroom school building including office space, set rooms, library and resource rooms, general purpose and multipurpose spaces and ancillary accommodation, includes provision for 43 no. car parking spaces with access from public road via new vehicular entrance, including drop-off and pick-up facilities along turning circle, 4 no. bicycle racks, external store, the formation of 3 no. ballcourts, junior play space, landscaping, a local stone boundary wall to the north and eastern boundaries and all other associated site development works including new bus stop on Kilumney Road.
Homan O’Brien’s design approach for Ballincollig Primary School was to utilise sustainable options and energy efficient systems and to employ a holistic approach to the integration of the building, its systems and its users. The design team recognised the need for the building to be designed and operated in a manner that reduces the environmental impact of the building, while achieving it in an economical manner and maintaining an internal environment that is comfortable and enjoyable to occupy. A brief summary of the energy efficient facilities are Highly Insulated Building Envelope / Well Sealed Building Envelope / High Performance Glazing System / Natural Ventilation and Natural Daylight / Energy Efficient Lighting and Controls / Energy Efficient Heating Systems and Controls / Energy Efficient Hot Water Systems and Controls.
