The Hermione Building, Alexandra College, Dublin 6.

New 97 No. bedroom part-three, part-four storey building providing a total of 203 No. bed spaces as well as study halls, rehearsal rooms, recreational rooms and ancillary floor areas over all floor levels.

The Hermione Dormitory Building has been designed to achieve best practice in sustainability and be an exemplar development at Alexandra College.

The design strategies employed include a whole life cycle approach to management and planning of the development, energy efficiency with specific focus on reducing the carbon footprint, improving the environmental quality of the spaces, material selection and use, waste management, water management and conservation and enhancing the ecological value of the site.

Energy efficiency measures were employed in order to maximise efficiency in operations and demonstrate best practice in new-build construction, including optimisation of the performance of the building fabric and ventilation to reduce heat-loses and manage solar gains.

The Hermione Building won ‘Educational Building of the Year’ award at the Building and Architect of the Year Awards 2023. Congratulations to all the design team involved on this impressive project.
