Hansfield ‘Educate Together’ new National and Secondary School campus situated in Hansfield, Dublin 15. The schools are operated by Educate Together (ET) a patron body who run independent co-educational schools in Ireland. The secondary school is the first in Ireland to be run autonomously by ET and one of their first campuses combining junior and senior allocation.
The Secondary school building consists of 26 general classrooms, particular purpose rooms for Construction studies, Science and other disciplines, Administrative offices, library, General purpose Hall, Sports Hall, Special Needs Unit, Kitchen / Servery.
The Primary School building consists of 24 general classroom with a special needs unit containing 2 number SNU classrooms.
The building which was over 3 floor levels also included a library & library resource area, junior and senior GP rooms with a servery, SET rooms and a staff room.
A full mechanical, electrical and lift installation design was carried out in accordance with the Department of Education & Skills’ Technical Guidance Document.
Mechanical:- Mechanically, heating, water services, soils and waste, ventilation and mechanical plant design was undertaken. The area of efficiency was also considered. Hansfield ETSS has been installed with complete automatic energy controls on the heating system. This system incorporates internal temperature control via wall stats and external weather compensation technology to ensure the external weather considerations are fed into the overall heating control strategy when calculating occupant comfort levels. Natural ventilation strategy employed throughout all teaching spaces. From a renewable resource perspective a grey water rain water harvesting system was incorporated for the sole use of WC flushing only.
Electrical:- Electrically, lighting, general services & data, switchgear, security, fire alarm, containment, lightning protection and mechanical plant wiring was designed. The building was supplied with an via an external substation and adjacent metering room. The site services included external lighting design, incoming service ducting allowances for Eir, Virgin media, ESB and street lighting. A proportion of the lighting was LED energy saving where the payback period was cost beneficial from a payback viewpoint. Future proofing from an IT perspective was also factored into the design with data points strategically located around the vicinity of the building for client Wi-Fi fit out. Room data sheets confirming all electrical services within rooms were prepared and offered to the installing contractor for installation accuracy.
Lift: A new MRL lift conforming to technical guidance documents was designed to meet part M of the Building Regulation requirements.
