The project consists of a new two-storey building housing irreplaceable artefacts in relation to Irish History for example 1916 Rising Memorabilia. The internal design conditions must be kept at precise conditions to ensure the artefacts are not damaged while being stored. The building consists of two document storage rooms of 780m2, a map room and a specialist film storage room. The project also consists of the refurbishment of an old two story hospital building which was converted into an office for the day to day running of the Archive Building. This building contains administration rooms, reading rooms, a canteen and a conservation lab. Construction commenced in January 2015 for the project to be completed for the 100 year anniversary of the 1916 Rising.
