Homan O’Brien are pleased to have progressed to construction stage on our UCD Student Residences Masterplan project. Phase 1 will consist of the construction of a New Amenity Building serving Student Residents, along with 924 Student Bedrooms in 3 buildings. JJ Rhatigan & Company have been awarded the contract for construction of Phase 1 and are in the process of site setup.
This project was the first to be granted planning under the government’s new Strategic Housing Development (SHD) process, designed to accelerate delivery of large-scale strategic housing schemes.
The permitted development will ultimately provide a new central amenity building for student residents and 2,178 bedspaces in six buildings of between five and ten storeys arranged around courtyards and linked by pedestrian walkways integrating the new buildings with the existing residences and academic buildings on campus. Activity hubs are located at key nodes, providing amenity and study space for residents and creating a living campus community.
The project has started on site with Phase 1 due for completion in Summer 2020. Along with Homan O’Brien (as Building Services), Reddy A+U are the lead consultant in this single point design team with Linesight (Quantity Surveyors), Barrett Mahony Consulting Engineers (Structural / Civil), Mitchell + Associates (Landscape), Michael Slattery Associates (Fire) and Billings Design Associates (Façade Consultants).
